Caroline Planté began learning flamenco at the age of 7 under the wing of her father, flamenco guitarist Marcel “El Rubio” Planté, one of the pioneers of the genre in Quebec in the 1960s.
She remained completely immersed in traditional flamenco for over 20 years.
Following numerous shows in Canada and several long training stays in Spain, her musical universe transformed and she gradually abandoned the purist form of the genre. Her compositions and her way of playing became gradually the reflection of her various musical influences and the woman she is becoming.
In 2004, she met the choreographer and dancer Mariano Cruceta in Madrid, which marked a profound change in her vision of this art. From 2004 to 2013, with the company Cruceta Flamenco, they created together 8 choreographic and musical works as well as a short film. It is therefore in Spain that she allows herself to explore and focus on a more personal approach by moving away from the stereotypes linked to guitarists in this art.
In 2010, she launched her first album, 8reflexiones, recorded in Madrid at the legendary Musigrama studio. The album achieved great success in Spain and around the world. It is the first album entirely composed and performed by a female guitarist to see the light of day.
After a 10-year career in Spain, from where she toured the Americas and Europe, the immense need to be close to her family and to continue her journey in her hometown repatriated her to Montreal in 2013 .
Since then, she has created and presented several projects: Sello (2013), Vuelo directo, Polymorphies (2014), Voyages (2017), The train of 57 strings (Prix Accès culture RIDEAU 2017-2018) and collaborates with different flamenco artists and different horizons such as La Otra Orilla, the Oktoecho ensemble, the Esmeralda Enrique Spanish Dance Co. troupe (Toronto), Flamenco Rosario (Vancouver), Zal Sissokho (Kora flamenca), the Noubi trio, Elsiane, the singer Valérie Gagné (seven song album -2023), Flamenco Rosanne Dion, Shraddha D. Blaney (Conviencia and music from the short film Phénix-Al-kimia), Damian Nisenson (Siestas album) and the collective Des mots sur Mesure VII (creation by Liette Gauthier).
Her new show, The Roses of Lorca, in collaboration with the singer Marcos Marín, is inspired by the work of the poet Federico Garcia Lorca.
